DESCRIPTION¶
When Multi-Attribute Login is enabled, WSO2 products may disclose the existence of user accounts through the login interface. For existing users, the server resolves and displays the canonical username in the login form, while for non-existent users it echoes the original input. This occurs regardless of the validate_username configuration and allows an attacker to distinguish valid from invalid accounts, enabling username enumeration.
IMPACT¶
The discovery of valid usernames can increase the risk of brute force attacks, social engineering attacks, and information leakage. As an example, attackers can use the list of usernames to craft targeted phishing emails or other social engineering attacks to trick users into divulging sensitive information.
