OVERVIEW

Potential MiTM due to missing Websocket hostname verification.

DESCRIPTION

Due to hostname verification being disabled a malicious actor could intercept the gateway to backend websocket connections to perform a MiTM attack.

IMPACT

In order for the attack to succeed a malicious actor should have access to the network connection between the gateway and the backend application.

By leveraging the vulnerability a malicious actor could intercept and potentially alter the communication between two parties gaining unauthorized access to sensitive information such as login credentials personal data or confidential messages. This could lead to unauthorized actions identity theft or the compromise of sensitive transactions.
